16 Sep That 70’s Vibe: How to Rock 70’s Curls & Blue Toned Eyes
Dianne von Frustenberg’s 2016 Spring Collection from New York Fashion Week was all about that 70’s vibe with tropical hair and make-up inspired by the 70’s. This was definitely one of my favorite beauty looks from the runway and what a perfect look to recreate this spring/summer. If you think you can’t pull off wearing blue eye shadow and big voluminous waves think again. All the models that walked for DVF had their eyelids dusted with teal toned eye shadow to create a dramatic effect and it looked amazing.
Hair:
Orlando Pita was the lead hair stylist and created the look using all TRESemme’ products for those voluminous waves. His step-by-step process to creating the look.
1: Create a deep side part using a tail comb.
2: Then layer with TRESemme’ make waves shaping gel and make waves shine enhancing cream onto a 2-inch wide section of the hair, then twist and secure into a bun.
3: Repeat this process and starting with one row of buns at the base of the neck then create a second row around the crown and forehead until all the hair is secured.
4: Use a hair dryer to dry each twisted bun, then when dry unravel each bun pulling apart the hair twists as it unravels.
5: Use a soft bristle brush to lightly brush out the waves and then lightly tease at the front section of the hair to create volume.
6: Finally complete the look by tucking your hair behind one ear and spray using TRESemme’ Perfectly undone ultra brushable hairspray. Add a floral hair accessory or bobby pins to secure in place.
Tip:
Another way to create this look if the above techniques are too tricky is to simply use a wide barreled hair wand. Section off the hair in layers, then grab a wide section of hair and start the curl. Continue with the rest of the layers then add a dry shampoo into the roots of the hair to add extra volume as well as lightly teasing the roots of the hair. Finish with hair spray.
Make-Up:
Make-up artist Pat McGrath created the dreamy mermaid eyes.
1: Prime the eyelids using an eye primer such as MAC’s Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base $35. This will prevent the eye shadow from creasing or fading and will make the colours appear more vibrant.
2: Pack on a shimmery cobalt shade wetting a flat eye shadow brush with water or MAC’s Prep + Prime Fix + Spray $27. This will make the colour more vibrant and will give it a nice sheen to the eyes. Apply close to the lash line leaving the top half of the lid bare. I recommend using the Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Tisse’ Jazz $98.Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effects
3: Then apply a glittery turquoise shade on the top half of the lid using a damp fluffy blending brush. MAC’s Dazzleshadow in Try me On $40 is the perfect shade
4: Using a smaller brush or pencil brush blend the turquoise shade along the lower lash line and connect with the shade on your lid.
5: Using a clean soft, fluffy blending brush, gently blend the two shades together back and forth in a windscreen wiper motion. Also don’t be afraid to use your fingers they are also great to help blend the eyeshadow together.
6: Finish the look with black eye liner in the waterline and lots of mascara of the top and bottom lashes.
