22 May HOW TO WEAR A DARK BERRY LIP THIS WINTER
Winter is great time to experiment with colour. During the colder months you can go bolder and darker with colour. In winter we tend to opt for clothes from a more simplistic palette with muted tones of neutrals, blacks and greys, meaning we can wear deeper shades of dark berry and wine coloured hues.
There are so many different shades to choose on the spectrum of lipstick, from berry to burgundy to oxblood. Not all people will suit this shade of lipstick and it’s important to choose the right shade to avoid looking washed out or goth like. If you have fair skin like myself then opt for something pink based like Chanel’s lipstick Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating lip colour in 444 Gabrielle $52. Blue-based lipsticks are best for women with medium skin tones as it has the effect of making your teeth look whiter while also complimenting the skin tone. Charlotte Tilbury’s K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Night Crimson $41 is the perfect shade. If your skin tone is on the darker side then use a colour that is brown based like the Lime Crime Velvetine in Salem $20.
Before applying your dark lip always begin using a lip liner of the same colour to prevent your lipstick from bleeding or feathering. Lip liner will also make your lipstick last a lot longer. Fill in the entire lips with your lip pencil.
When applying your lipstick its best to use a brush to keep it clean and neat. It will also give you better control of where you want the colour applied and will also give your lips a smooth even toned effect.
When pulling off a dark lip its best to keep the eye look minimal. Use a soft champagne toned eye shadow on your eyelids to make your eyes pop and a bit of mascara. This look is perfect for the colder months ahead.
