08 Feb How to: Strobing
Strobing is a technique that make-up artists have been using for years on models to catch the photographers flash of the camera. The purpose of this light-reflecting technique is to apply a shimmery highlighter to the high points of the face. So basically it’s just a fun term for highlighting. Now that this trend has made it’s way into the mainstream, how do you do it without looking like a hot mess?
1: Prep the skin: When strobing it’s all about achieving that natural glow, so start prepping your skin with a hydrating moisturizer. This will brighten and replenish dull, dry skin.
Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream $125
L’Occitane Pivoine Sublime Perfecting Cream $65
2: Choosing a highlighter: Choose a shade that’s lighter than your skin tone. This will result in a natural glow that looks like it’s coming from within.
Best Highlighter Shades for your skin tone:
Fair skin: Pearl or champagne tones
Light/medium Skin: Champagne or pink Champagne tones
Olive Skin: Golden tones
Dark Skin: Terracotta tones
3: How to apply: The best part when strobing is that it’s easier to master than contouring. All you have to do when applying the highlighter is place it on the parts of your face that catch light. Think about where the light is mostly likely to hit: above the cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, tip of the cupids bow, the middle of your forehead and the inner corner of your eyes. This will enhance your natural features.
